Funeral Day~

February 3, 2017 — Leave a comment

I really don’t like going to funerals, but sometimes we just have to.  Such was the case when we laid my sweet friend, Ruth servantGreen, to rest.  Ruth was a godly woman who gave of herself freely.  She was kind and sweet and loving and most of all, she loved me.  She served her country during the Korean Conflict, she served her family, and she served her friends.

Do you ever consider your funeral service and what will be said?  Ruth had hers all planned out – including a prayer to receive Jesus if you hadn’t already!

The cancer that chewed up Ruth’s body is now swallowed up in the victory of our risen Lord!  No more pain, no more suffering – forever with Jesus.

Love Thy Neighbor~

I know a woman who was prompted by God several years ago to give her unbelieving neighbor a bible.  A while later, she invited him to a Sunday School class party.  Now, she’s 25 years older than he, so it wasn’t like a date!

But she knew that he didn’t have a relationship with Jesus and she wanted him to see that Christians are normal people whose sins have been forgiven.

He agreed to go and he loved it.  The folks at the party were very kind and caring with him.  He agreed to come to church for the mid-week service because dinner was served.  Again, the folks loved on him and made him feel welcome.  (And the food wasn’t bad either!)  He came each week for the dinner and as he did, he built relationships with many there.

Eventually he decided he was ready for Sunday morning.  Again, his new friends were thrilled to see him on a Sunday and welcomed him warmly.  Of course, each time he was there, he was given teaching from God’s word and saw it being lived out in front of him.  And he saw the difference in his new friends.

I heard he has accepted Christ as his own and had been baptized into the family of faith!

You know, sometimes we are afraid to talk to people about Jesus because we are afraid they will ask us something that we don’t know the answer to.  Love Heart, you don’t have to have all the answers, I promise.

If you will just listen to the urgings of the Holy Spirit, He may just allow you to be a part of something wonderful…like the salvation of a friend!  Oh yeah, his new slogan is, “I came for food and stayed for God!”  Don’t you love it?  Gwen~

cockerWhen my Cocker Spaniel, Annabelle, and I used to go for a walk, she’d be tethered to me on a strong leash, and I’d carry a stick to ward off stray dogs.  She knew just where she was supposed to walk and usually did a good job of it.

Sometimes though, behind a fence a dog would start barking. That frequently began a chain reaction.  The symphony of possible disaster scared her, and she’d pull closer to me, knowing that I would protect her from the hidden danger.

When we walk with God, sometimes we are scared by the things that life hurls at us and just like sovereignetyAnnabelle, we draw closer to our Protector, knowing that He shields us with His mighty rod of sovereignty.

Aren’t you thankful that you don’t have to do life alone?  Draw nearer to your defender and thank Him for all the marvelous things He has done!

right handIsaiah 41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

How perfect is that? He’s never failed to come through on a promise. Gwen~

Give Thanks!

Thanksgiving is my very favorite holiday!  When my parents were living, it was the one time of year that my family was all together.  There were scads of us and it was a glorious day.  I truly miss those days.  Mom and Dad and one of my brothers are all in heaven and the rest of us are scattered to the winds.

If you are able to be with your family this special Thursday, enjoy every moment.  It’s doesn’t matter how much Cousin (Insert Name) gets on your nerves, love her!  There will come a day when her spot at the table will be empty.

While Thanksgiving is a wonderful time, I know all the holidays are hard on those who have lost family members, especially recently.  Know this, there are those who are thinking about you and praying for you.  There are those who share your pain.  In spite of the empty spot at your table, please don’t forget to give Thanks to God for all you have.

Another way to make the most of the day is to invite someone you know will be alone to your house.  And don’t forget there are many areas who collect food and clothing for those less fortunate.  Thanks to Love and Care Ministries in Abilene, Texas for their annual Mission Thanksgiving.  Gwen~

I read a story about a great sculptor Michaelangelo.  He was moving a huge, odd shaped rock through a busy street..  “When asked what he was doing, the artist replied that he was going to release the angel within the stone.”  Before he put hammer and chisel to the rock, he could see the potential within.

God is that Artist, Sculptor, Designer who looks at you and sees more than you can possibly imagine.

He sees the gifts that he has designed within you   He knows exactly what your capable of and he knows the preparation that has taken place for you to serve in your church.

“All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.  The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, the form one body.  So it is with Christ.  For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body – whether Jew or Greeks, slave or free – and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.  Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.” (1 Corinthians 12:11-14, NIV)

Each believer was created to serve the church with his God given talent.  Let’s serve together for the Kingdom. ~Debra
