I have spent quite a lot of time monitoring the visits between children who have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services and their parents.  The one term that can be applied to all of them is sad.

But the saddest thing is when the mom arrives for the visit accompanied by her mom and their actions are identical…rough, tough, mean and addicted.  I remember thinking that these adults don’t know that they can live life a different way. They’re stuck in a generational way of existence.  What about that little one?  Is she destined for the same way of life?  God forbid!

We all know that not everybody who knows the Lord walks in His righteousness.  Many who know Jesus, at one time or another, go their own way…often with disastrous results.  Remember the Prodigal Son?

              But, if you know Jesus, you have a distinct advantage over those who don’t.  You have somewhere to turn, Someone to turn to who can make a difference.  I Corinthians 10:13 gives us hope and assurance.  “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” (NIV 1984)

Love Heart, if you’re caught up in a cycle of destruction know this…God Can Break This Bondage Over You and Yours no matter what it is!  Drugs, alcohol, prostitution…it doesn’t matter.  He is able!  Notice in the scripture these words for your comfort…“And God is faithful.”  If you know someone who has twisted off the path or maybe never been on it, take the time to share with them that life can be different-incredibly different, and their social status has nothing to do with what’s available to them.  Rich, poor, bond or free, God gives freely who all who ask!  Gwen~


What’s in a name??

Jesus, name above all names!  “God is salvation”…it expresses both his identity and his assignment.

Did Mary and Joseph choose his name or name him after a relative?  No, Matthew 1:22-22 tell us that “…an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people for their sins.”

As we enter this Christmas season remember that Jesus was sent as a baby with a role and purpose!  To live and die as a man and give you the greatest gift you will ever receive…Salvation!

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NIV)

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of god” (Romans 3L23, NIV)

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, NIV)

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, NIV)

“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord, “and believes in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10, NIV)

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13, NIV)

Thankful for Each Step~

Be thankful that the King of Glory holds you in the palm of His hand, and that His eyes never leave you!

God the Father reminds us of His love in so many different ways.  I remember when my son was just starting to walk.  This one particular day we were crossing the parking lot at church and as I held his hand, he stumbled.  Because I had him held tightly in my grip, he didn’t fall headlong into the pavement, but quickly regained his footing.  He was safe from harm.  In a flash, God reminded me that He, as our loving parent, holds our hand too as we navigate the roads of life.

Listen to this scripture from Psalm 37:23-24. “The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.”  How amazing is it that the Father brings His words to life for us in real situations!

               Some say the bible is too hard to understand and therefore they dismiss it as an archaic document and nothing more.  That’s what the devil would like for you to think.  If you don’t know what it says, then you can’t refute his lies.  No, the bible is food for the soul and a light for our paths.

So, there are actually two points here.  One, your Father has a hold on you.  Don’t forget that.  It’s much too important.  And two, read His word and find out for yourself how wonderful He is.  Give Thanks!  Gwen~


Reject or Accept

Do you ever question if faith in Jesus in the only way to be saved?  Satan is very crafty.  He lies and twists God’s word to confuse us!  He would have everyone believe that sooner or later everyone will make it to heaven.  Is that what scripture tells us? We have a choice to reject or accept Christ’s gift of salvation.  “God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.  He who believes in Him is not condemned; he who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believe in the name of the only begotten Sod of God” (John 3:17-18, NIV)  The scripture clearly states that …“whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NIV).  We only have this time on earth to make that choice.  There are no second chances after death!

Why not make sure of your salvation today, and ask Jesus into your heart as your personal Lord and Savior. God promises eternity for those who make that decision and wrath to those who don’t.  “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; but whoever rejects the son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him. “ (John 3:36, NIV) Do not be fooled by the lure of a second chance.  Remember, there are no second chances after death.  We have this life to accept or reject Christ! Pollution…it’s a word we hear almost everyday. It’s usually referring to the pollutants we put in the air, tin cans, water bottles the list can goes on and on.

How does it apply to your spiritual life?

How about when you’re watching TV show that advocates the very thing that you’ve been teaching your children not to do?

When you’re at work and a co-worker is telling an off colored joke.  Do you stick around to listen or do you walk away?

Your boss asks you to do something just a “little” dishonest…

All of this can affect us spiritually.  Little by little it invades us and before you know it we will be doing things we never would have thought of.

God’s word tells us…”Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.  And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9, NIV) 

I want to encourage you to meditate on God’s word and to find yourself a place to worship and keep yourself accountable.  We must fill our minds with things of God to fight worldly temptation.
