Archives For Prayer

Pray without ceasing. That’s a tall order! Do you think it means we have to be on our knees with our heads bowed and hands held together? I don’t think so. I think it means to have our focus on our Help and our Strength. I’ve heard them called “popcorn prayers.” In other words, it’s just a little talk with God at various times during the day. Sorta like calling your husband just to say “Hi!” It’s not a long conversation, but just a reminder to him that you are thinking about him.

It’s always good to pray before you start a task that you know is going to be difficult. God is always listening. Many of us probably fire off those prayers regularly. But what about those “Thanks!” prayers? Here’s what the Word says:

Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (NIV)

Well, that just about says it all. In every situation! By prayer and petition! With thanks! Ask of God what you think you need and don’t forget to thank Him…even if you don’t get the answer you thought it should be. He knows what’s best. Really! Gwen~

Grace Who?

March 6, 2017 — Leave a comment

Grace is a word that gets tossed around a lot, but what does it mean?  Merriam-Webster says, “unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification.”  Well, what’s regeneration or sanctification?  Again, according to Merriam-Webster, regeneration deals with the state of growing in divine grace as a result of Christian commitment after baptism or conversion, while regeneration is spiritual renewal or revival.

Now that we have the definitions out of the way, what does Grace mean?  Clearly some people have tried to used it as a 00666 License to Sin, but as you can see, by definition it’s divine assistance to get us back on the right track.

To me, growing in grace, renewal and revival don’t sound like words associated with intentional, repetitive sin.

Now, I realize most of us, if we are honest, can remember a time when we callously did things we knew we weren’t supposed to do.  But when we repented (turned away from what we were doing), our loving father was there with His marvelous grace to lavish on us.

Don’t forget that first word…unmerited!  It means you haven’t done (and can’t do) anything to earn it, but it’s given to you anyhow!  What an awesome God we serve!

Today, if you are doing things that you know God doesn’t want you to do, stop it, and receive His grace.  It is truly AMAZING!  Gwen

Give Thanks!

Thanksgiving is my very favorite holiday!  When my parents were living, it was the one time of year that my family was all together.  There were scads of us and it was a glorious day.  I truly miss those days.  Mom and Dad and one of my brothers are all in heaven and the rest of us are scattered to the winds.

If you are able to be with your family this special Thursday, enjoy every moment.  It’s doesn’t matter how much Cousin (Insert Name) gets on your nerves, love her!  There will come a day when her spot at the table will be empty.

While Thanksgiving is a wonderful time, I know all the holidays are hard on those who have lost family members, especially recently.  Know this, there are those who are thinking about you and praying for you.  There are those who share your pain.  In spite of the empty spot at your table, please don’t forget to give Thanks to God for all you have.

Another way to make the most of the day is to invite someone you know will be alone to your house.  And don’t forget there are many areas who collect food and clothing for those less fortunate.  Thanks to Love and Care Ministries in Abilene, Texas for their annual Mission Thanksgiving.  Gwen~

Yes, We Have Power~

September 18, 2016 — Leave a comment

Recently a friend came to me and asked me to pray for an ailing aunt. That wasn’t very unusual because I’m asked to pray for people often.  However, her next comment was very unusual.  She said, “Pray for my aunt, because I know you pray believing.”  Now that rocked me back on my heels a bit.

Matthew 21:22 says, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” What does that mean?

Jesus told the disciples they would do all He did and more! We know through the power of the Holy Spirit they healed the sick in Jesus’s name. Yet somehow today we have been jaded by charlatans into thinking we have no power.  It’s just not true!  Yes, we have power!
