The Rock

Years ago, I had a friend who was completely overwhelmed with her life.  She was at the altar at church crying her eyes out.  I slipped out of my seat and went to her side. As I put my arm around her, I couldn’t think of anything to say except, “Let’s go back to what we know.”  We talked about the basics of the Christian life and what God has promised to us – things like the fact that He loves us and won’t turn His back on us even when the whole world might.

Do you have those promises memorized so that when you’re overwhelmed you too can comfort yourself with God’s word?  John 10 talks about Jesus as the Good Shepherd, and Jesus Himself assures us that no one, yes, no one, can take us away from Him.  If you’re world is crumbling, go to the Rock .  He’ll never let you down.  While others may come and go in your life, He won’t~He can’t.  He’s there to stay!  Let Him carry you through the rough times!  Gwen~

No, Never Alone~

Several years ago, I had the privilege of reading scripture at my brother’s memorial service.  What an honor that was.  Since that time, I find myself in a very odd-feeling place.

I’m sure it’s a place that many of you share with me…I’m the last one.  Both parents and both siblings are gone – passed from this world into the next one.

Leave As I look at the family portrait we had made many years ago on my parents 60th wedding anniversary, I’m the only one who is still alive.  In a weird sort of way, I feel alone, even though I still have my husband and son and lots of nieces and nephews and other kin who are still living.

I find my solace, however, in the fact that my God has promised to never leave or forsake me.  (Deut. 31:6)  When I ponder being the last one, my mind keeps running to this scripture.

We all understand being left.  But what does it mean to be forsaken?  It means to be turned away from or renounced.  So when God tells me He will not leave me, He also says He will never turn away from me or turn His back on me.  And, Love Heart, that brings me comfort!

Earthly life is a fragile thing.  It’s something to be handled with care.  Thank God today for His gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ and for His promises which are always kept.  Gwen~

I received a note from a friend the other day of an account of a young woman who was speaking to a group on stress!  She turned around picked up a glass of water, and everyone smiled…knowing what she was going to ask!  ‘half empty or half full?’ …she fooled everyone.  “How heavy is this glass of water?  she asked with a smile.

Answers varied from 8 oz. to 20 oz.  She replied, “The weight doesn’t matter.  It’s how long I have to hold it.  If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem.  If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right arm.  If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance. In each case it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.

Isn’t that they way it is with our burdens.  Our worry, confusion, helplessness, just becomes too much to carry!

Let’s put our burdens down.  Why not try laying them at the feet of Jesus?

If you need someone to talk to, let Him lead you through prayer to a trusted friend or professional to confide in.

imageWhen we’re refreshed and encouraged knowing that we’re not alone…our burdens become lighter.  Each day brings hope and answers become clear! Praise the Lord!

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.  For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.  If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted it is for your comfort, which produces in your patient endurance of the same suffering we suffer.  And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-7, NIV)

Gonna lay down my burdens…Deb~
