I’m Hungry…

Hunger…a craving or urgent need for….

Are you a person after God’s heart? Are you curious about what makes Him tick?  How do you find the answers?

A hunger for God doesn’t just come to us one day.  It must be cultivated.  You begin with your Bible reading…that’s were we listen and God speaks.

“Blessed is the man who doesn’t not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.  He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields it’s fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.  Whatever he does prospers.”  (Psalms 1:1-3, NIV)

Another aspect is prayer.  If reading scripture just doesn’t do it for you.  Ask the Lord to make scripture come alive and be at work in your life.   

“I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.  Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. (Psalms 116:1-2, NIV)

Slow down and think about what you’ve read.  What you’ve uncovered and how it applies to your life.

“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (Joshua 1:8, NIV)

Love Heart, you must keep at it.  Your hunger might not surface right away.  You’re working on a life change not a quick fix.    

Keep filling yourself with the God’s word, prayer and reflection.  It will bring about transformation. ~ Debra

My husband had gone to men’s prayer breakfast and to enjoy some skeet shooting with the boys and I enjoyed sleeping in until 9:00 which rarely happens anymore. 

Fixed myself some breakfast and went out on the deck to have my quite time.

Cool breeze, Bible and Dr Pepper.  What more could a woman ask for?

My devotion was on understanding the Bible.  How many times have you heard someone say they don’t understand what the Bible is saying, even believers?

The key to understanding the Bible is obedience.  When we act on what we read the scripture “comes alive.” 

Why should God continue to reveal his word to us if we are not going to obey it?  “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding.  To Him belongs eternal praise.” (Psalms 111:10)

Obedience is they key to understanding! Deb~

Rise Up…

Have you ever been to a church service and felt the Holy Spirit prompting you to stand; either for the scripture reading or a song?


I have, especially with music.  It’s my worship!  Some songs you just can’t sing sitting down!!

It was the same way for the people in the book of Ezra.  They were honoring the word because they knew the Word had power to change peoples lives!!

I enjoy teaching God’s word, but I also take it very seriously.  It’s not something to be taken lightly.  I stive to show tremendous respect, joy and love for the word of God.  I’ve seen the power behind it.  I’ve experienced the valley’s and mountaintops, but through it all God’s word has been my guide.  image

If you have never experienced the tranforming power of God’s Holy Word, I encourage you to give it a try.  You’ll see why it deserves our honor and respect! ~Debra

Rain Down

thWhat a wonderful evening.  I’m sitting in my living room enjoying the wonderful sounds and smells of a soft summer rain!

During these long, hot, summer days, a gentle rain can be so refreshing.

It reminds me of my time spent in the word allowing God’s word to wash over me.  th (1)


Ephesians 3:14-21 -“For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.  I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,  and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

In Sunday School a couple of weeks ago; I had an eye opening experience.  I looked over to find one of the ladies sitting at my table sobbing.  Really sobbing.

I couldn’t imagine what was wrong.  I kept my eye on her, wondering if I might give her some comfort.

She got up from her seat to get some paper towels.  She had spilled her coffee.  I thought, Oh, no…she’s burned herself.  She continued to sob and clean up her mess.image

Then, it became crystal clear.  She begin to blot the coffee from the pages of her Bible.  Crying harder with each dab of the pages.

She carefully laid the paper towels between the pages of God’s word to keep them from sticking together.  It was as if it was her most treasured possession.

I approached her after class and asked if she was ok.  Her words broke my heart… “I’ve ruined it”.  I can’t afford another one and I need the large print to be able to read it.

Iimage assured her it wasn’t ruined, that it would looked used by its owner.  She smiled.

Wow, what if we ALL held God’s word in such high esteem.

“All scripture is God breathed, and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16

How do the pages of your Bible look?  Old, worn, marked and treasured or crisp as the first day you bought it. ~Debra
