Negative Nan

Some of my happiest times are family dinners!  Providing food for our large family isn’t an easy task, but my mom seems to always come through.

This particular time the feast was waiting for the vultures to dig in, but the rolls weren’t quite ready.

We continue to talk, laugh and have a good time while waiting.  Then next thing you know my mother was screaming…they’re burnt!  Just look the bottoms of these rolls. They’re ruined.  My son replies…Oh Gram, we’ll just cut off the burnt part! 

Supper was wonderful and we enjoyed the rolls, but you know that to this day my mother still talks about those burnt rolls.  With all that fabulous food, all she can remember was the one item that didn’t come out perfect.




Do you tend to dwell on the negative of a situation?

Dwelling on a negative situation only gives it power, it feeds off of you.   Hopefully you can learn something from it and press forward!

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14, NIV)


“And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”  (Isaiah 9:6, NIV)

Prayer is a powerful tool!  Ask your Counselor, he will give you the guidance, strength, direction and motivation to press on! ~Deb

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?”(Matthew 6:26, NIV)

Are you a worrier?  I used to be.  I could work myself into a frenzy better than anyone I know.

I would walk around wringing my hands.  What am I going to do?  How am I going to fix this?

My first mistake was thinking I could do anything!!  Your Father in Heaven knows exactly what your going through.  If he takes care of the birds…don’t you think He can take care of you?

“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” (Matthew 6:27)

Thoughts-The Real You

Once while I was visiting family we were eating breakfast when I seemingly went into a trance.  My brother asked me what I was thinking about.  As silly as it sounds, I was thinking about the napkin rings on the table and wondering if my sister-in-law would like some of the beautiful ones I gotten a few years ago.

Now it’s not often that somebody asks me what I’m thinking, but it reminded me of the words of God found in 2 Cor. 10:5 that say, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Do you consider your “thought” life?  Is your mind on things above or is it grubbing around in the gutter.  Is your mind centered on Christ or are you allowing the devil to ride herd over your thoughts and wreak havoc in your life?

Love Heart, what if God asked you, “What are you thinking about?”  What would your answer be? I want you to remember what the devil’s goal is.  It’s to kill, steal and destroy.  Don’t be fooled…he’s after you.  Don’t give him a foothold in your life.  Keep your eyes (and your thoughts) fixed on Jesus.

               Phillipians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”  Gwen~

th (1)Is there someone that you would love to meet, but their inaccessibility makes it impossible?  A dignitary, movie star, maybe a king and queen.

How is it that we hope and pray to meet those people who will never be accessible to us and probably couldn’t care less about us?

“Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

I serve a King who is available day or night.  On the day he gave his life for mine; the division was broken, making Christ my constant accessible Companion. ~Debra   th

“And when Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.  At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.  The earth shook and the rocks split.  (Matthew 27:50-51)


th (6)As I was reading through the Old Testament, I was reminded of a stunning realization.  Every time they came before the Father confessing their sins, they had to bring a lamb for slaughter.

This also brought to mind what my Salvation cost my Savior.  He couldn’t have just died of natural causes.  Redemption couldn’t work without the “shedding of blood.”  Without it there is no forgiveness.

 “And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” (Hebrews 9:22)

Love Heart, the flogging and crucifixion of Christ was a horrible, bloody mess.  It should be gut wrenching to us.  Have you thanked Christ for His sacrifice and His gift of Eternal th (5)Salvation?

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesian 2:8-9)
