focus2As I sit to write, all I can think about is how grateful I am.

Our surrounding circumstances can feel like more than we can bear on occasion because there is always something not going right.  Flat tire, mortgage due, sick children, lay-offs at work, and the list goes on and on.

Love Heart, if we live on that plain, consumed by life, we will be miserable.  But, if we choose to live our lives believing that our God is with us through every trial, we can live in peace with every situation.

Paul said in Philippians 4:10-13, “I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, butContentment2 you had no opportunity to show it.  I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

Many of us know that last verse, however, Paul is explaining that he can make it through anything because he has learned.  And he’s learned through life experiences.

Each time you go through the fire (and you will), when you come out on the other side, examine how God was with you all the way.  Look for His fingerprints on the situation.  You’ll find them.  Gwen~

I’ve Got a Secret~

With the world spinning by at an incredible pace, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind. With the television and magazines telling you that you must have the latest and greatest of everything to be happy, you can easily fall into a trap spawned from the depths of hell.

contentmentHappiness is fleeting and depends mostly on the circumstances de jour. Contentment, on the other hand, is abiding. Look at our brother, Paul. Now that’s a life filled with highs and lows.

Paul experienced the highest of highs, as a well-respected Roman citizen, and the lowest of lows, imprisoned as a common criminal. Yet, in Philippians 4:11-14, he lets us in on the secret.

“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be Philippians_4_12_Imagecontent whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret (my emphasis added) of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

What is the secret? Simply Jesus. Knowing Him and knowing who you are in Him is the secret to life contentment! As we celebrate His birthday, take some time to explore where you find yourself on the scale of contented living.  Gwen~

th (2)What does your face reflect?  Is it anger, disappointment, resentment or joy, peace, trust and contentment?

Do you crawl around in the darkness of this world, accepting defeat?  God wants you to be a light shinning bright.  Let Him radiant from your face. Trust that God knows just what you’re going through. Allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through you!

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
