Miserable

January 25, 2015 — Leave a comment

I had a weekend full of temptation and I must confess I failed miserably.

I imagehave Celiac Disease.  Celiac disease is a condition that damages the lining of the small intestine and prevents it from absorbing parts of food that are important for staying healthy. The damage is due to a reaction to eating gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, rye, and possibly oats.

This definition only contains a small list of the things that have gluten in them.  It’s everywhere!!

I know that we all face temptation on a daily basis and this is very minor compared to some, but it is something I struggle with.

“When tempted, no one should say, God is tempting me. For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he temp anyone, but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.” (James 1:13-14) image

In my mind, I tell myself it won’t hurt just this one time!  The truth is; it’s killing me.  Seriously!   I need to resign myself to the fact that I can’t have certain things because they are not good for me!!

“Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” (James 1:15-16)

It’s a mindset!  We must resign ourselves to the fact that some things are just not good for us and will ultimately destroy us.

Let us pray to our Father for strength to resist temptation! ~Debra

If you watch football, like I do, you know that defense is a term used for the team to defend against the opposing team.

We as believers need to have a defense of our very own.  Against our ENEMY…Satan!

He is constantly looking for ways to trip us up!  One way…“Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”  (2 Peter 5:8, NIV)

Temptation is something we must comprehend in order to defend.  How does temptation originate?  It usually starts with a thought. This isn’t an accident…probably an arrow sent by the Satan to derail us.  “In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrow of the evil one.”  (Eph. 6:16)

To sin or not to sin…that is the question!  It’s very dangerous and the decision can be made in an instant!

Wise believers decide ahead of time to protect themselves from temptation before it enters their mind.  How you ask?  Comment to obey God and know that He is in control and has limited Satan abilities. “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.  And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Satan has a way of making sin look fun and exciting.  He wants us to live in the moment.  But we need to look at the bigger picture and ask ourselves a question or two…Is this choice in line with God’s word?  What’s the cost?  Are we willing to pay the price?

What is our best defense against temptation? Meditation on God’s word and daily prayer.  It builds our faith and strengthens our heart and mind against any arrows the devil sends our way!

If we as believers hold on to that thought, it can become a fantasy…imagining what it would be like to carry out that thought.  Emotions are usually entangled with fantasy thus creating desire, which brings us to having to make a choice!

Following the Leader

January 9, 2012 — Leave a comment

I was going to teach my Pre-School Choir a song…”I Will Make You Fisher’s of Men.” It had me searching scripture to share with my children where the disciples were called to service in God’s word.

As I read Matthew 4:18-25, I thought…it must have been so much easier back then.

When Jesus led, they followed. When he talked, they heard his voice.  When they saw how he worked with people, they followed by his example.

So, how are we supposed to follow Jesus today?  We can’t see, hear, or touch him.

We have to make a choice to accept Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives!

Love Heart…you can’t have your cake and eat it too! You can’t be of this world and His too.

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.”  (Romans 12:2, NIV)

If you are a believer in Christ he has promised us a Counselor, the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit which transforms you from the inside out giving us the guidance and direction needed for obedience.

“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26, NIV)

We discover God’s will for our lives through the Holy Spirit and he gives us the desire and strength to follow Him.

Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s voice and follow the leader, Jesus Christ! ~Deb

Ask, Seek, Knock

July 13, 2011 — 2 Comments

Have you ever needed something badly but just couldn’t justify spending the money?

We are in need of a car.  Now, that’s not a small purchase so we are really praying and waiting on God’s direction. We want to be good stewards of what God has given us and don’t want to stretch ourselves out of God’s will.

Matthew 7:7 tells us:  “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For
everyone who ask receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Now keep in mind that doesn’t mean we get everything our little heart’s desire.  It must be within God’s will for our lives.

Matthew continues with: “Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?  Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?  If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

Simple…we are sinners and give willingly to our loved ones, how much MORE will our heavenly father, who is without sin, gives us if we ask!

Now, we’ve been asking for God’s direction on this issue for
about 2 years.  Yea, that’s a long time by most standards but we know that God has a plan for our lives. (Jeremiah29:11, NIV)

When you don’t get the response you want within a certain time…wait!  Silence in your life and mine is always good.  God is asking…do you want your best or MINE!

God supplied our request for a vehicle this morning!  It’s a beautiful car, within our budget and we couldn’t be happier.  Just think what would have happened if we stepped out on our own…Thank You, Lord for your provision.

God does care about the little things in our lives!!  Deb~
