Crafty For Sure!

March 22, 2017 — Leave a comment

serpentGenesis 3:1 says, “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

As I’ve said at many Love Heart Ministries engagements, you have an enemy, my friend, who will use any technique necessary to cause problems in your life.  Don’t skip over the word crafty in the scripture.  Let me give you an example.

Debra was my evaluator for a speech I gave at our Toastmasters club meeting.  One of her comments said, “Gwen, you’re too smart for that.”  I was stunned by the bluntness of the statement.  In fact, it hurt my feelings!

After a few days I decided I would ask her exactly what she meant.  As it turns out, it was two comments inadvertently linked together!  She had started a sentence with “Gwen you’re…” and then stopped in mid thought to capture a quotation I had made in the speech…”too smart for that.”  Incredible.

Four points here.  1.  Debra meant absolutely nothing ugly to me.  2.  I took offence at something I shouldn’t have.  3.  I should have gotten clarification immediatley.  4.  The devil will use friendship-breakupANYTHING to disrupt the work of God!

What if I had let that innocent comment get out of hand and ruin our friendship?  What about Love Heart Ministries and the readers who come to our website to get encouragement from God?

When I say that you have an enemy, I’m not lying.  Be on guard, Love Heart.  Keep a watchful eye.  Don’t be deceived by the evil one. Gwen~

Creeped Out!

July 22, 2015 — Leave a comment

Do you ever find yourself feeling a little edgy?  When it happens to me, I say it’s like my spirit is unsettled for lack of a better term.  Wonder who is responsible for those creepy feelings?  Oh, wait…creepy?  Must be the enemy!

Subtle is his way.  Just think, if some great big red thing with horns and pitchfork jumped in front of you stinking of sulfur, would you need to stop and think for even a second if you should avoid contact?  NO!  If you didn’t faint flat out, you’d be on the run.

Do you think the serpent was a scary looking thing when he tricked Eve into doing things her own way?  No, he wasn’t. This happened before the fall of man.   Eve had never seen anything scary in her life.

Love Heart, he uses the same tricks today.  How can he beguile you if he’s scary?  Don’t think just because whatever you’re thinking about doing sounds and looks good that it is good.  Consult with God.  He sees through those layers of deceit and will reveal the scheme to you if you will just ask.

Remember the story about the wolf in sheep’s clothing?  Same thing applies here.  How can you fight the enemy if you don’t know who he is and how he works?  Don’t be tricked.  Be alert.  Well, here I go again…read the Bible!  It will open your eyes to many pitfalls you can successfully avoid.  Gwen~

Roaaaarrrrr!

Have you ever watched a squirrel sleep?  Now that’s a question for you!  As I was lazing in our hammock, I looked up to see a little squirrel wedged in a fork of the pecan tree.  He was very still and looked sleepy to me.  Sure enough, as I watched his little eyes closed.  However, with the slightest movement in the yard those eyes immediately popped open.  He was alert and ready for anything.  Are we alert to the dangers around us or do we just hoe-de-doe through life with our head in the clouds?

Hear this:  1 Peter 5:8 says “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Notice it doesn’t say “someone to snack on,” or “someone to pick at.”  This is serious.  To devour is as vicious as it sounds!  It means to use up or destroy.

This does not mean we have to live in fear, but it does mean there is definitely an enemy seeking to take us down.  Heed the advice…be alert! Gwen~

If you watch football, like I do, you know that defense is a term used for the team to defend against the opposing team.

We as believers need to have a defense of our very own.  Against our ENEMY…Satan!

He is constantly looking for ways to trip us up!  One way…“Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”  (2 Peter 5:8, NIV)

Temptation is something we must comprehend in order to defend.  How does temptation originate?  It usually starts with a thought. This isn’t an accident…probably an arrow sent by the Satan to derail us.  “In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrow of the evil one.”  (Eph. 6:16)

To sin or not to sin…that is the question!  It’s very dangerous and the decision can be made in an instant!

Wise believers decide ahead of time to protect themselves from temptation before it enters their mind.  How you ask?  Comment to obey God and know that He is in control and has limited Satan abilities. “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.  And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Satan has a way of making sin look fun and exciting.  He wants us to live in the moment.  But we need to look at the bigger picture and ask ourselves a question or two…Is this choice in line with God’s word?  What’s the cost?  Are we willing to pay the price?

What is our best defense against temptation? Meditation on God’s word and daily prayer.  It builds our faith and strengthens our heart and mind against any arrows the devil sends our way!

If we as believers hold on to that thought, it can become a fantasy…imagining what it would be like to carry out that thought.  Emotions are usually entangled with fantasy thus creating desire, which brings us to having to make a choice!
