They’re watching….

Now, I know men don’t particularly like to read instructions.  They’re more of a “pictures and figure it out” kind of creature.  As long as they can look at an example, they can figure out the rest.  There may be a scattering of bolts and screws left, but that’s beside the point.

Like it or not, you’re an example.  Can the casual observer figure out that you are a Christian by looking at how you live your life?  Do they see things in you that they don’t see in the general population?

One of my foreign friends recently said that he thought he had an idea of what Americans were like, but after meeting a few of us, he had changed his mind.  I really don’t think the difference was that we were American but that we were Christian.

People are watching your example.  And, if there’s one thing that really puts folks off, it’s a phony.  Watch what you do and say…they are watching.  Gwen~

I had a weekend full of temptation and I must confess I failed miserably.

I imagehave Celiac Disease.  Celiac disease is a condition that damages the lining of the small intestine and prevents it from absorbing parts of food that are important for staying healthy. The damage is due to a reaction to eating gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, rye, and possibly oats.

This definition only contains a small list of the things that have gluten in them.  It’s everywhere!!

I know that we all face temptation on a daily basis and this is very minor compared to some, but it is something I struggle with.

“When tempted, no one should say, God is tempting me. For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he temp anyone, but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.” (James 1:13-14) image

In my mind, I tell myself it won’t hurt just this one time!  The truth is; it’s killing me.  Seriously!   I need to resign myself to the fact that I can’t have certain things because they are not good for me!!

“Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” (James 1:15-16)

It’s a mindset!  We must resign ourselves to the fact that some things are just not good for us and will ultimately destroy us.

Let us pray to our Father for strength to resist temptation! ~Debra

Most of us go through our days not realizing the impact we make on the people around us.  We feel like we’re just an ordinary gal or guy and we don’t command a wide berth, but the truth of the matter is that we make a huge difference every day.  We just may not be aware of it!

Paul advised his younger brother in Christ, Timothy, this way.  “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.”  (1Timothy 4:12NIV)  That pretty much covers it all!  Not only are the unbelievers looking to see how you’ll handle an unpleasant situation but your fellow believers need a good example too!

Don’t rely on yourself to keep up impressions!  That will get you into serious trouble!  Rely on God to live through you in everything you do.  His Presence will be evident to all .Gwen~

Mark 11:13 -14 “And seeing in the distance a fig tree (covered) with leaves, He went to see if He could find any (fruit) on it (for in the fig tree the fruit appears at the same time as the leaves).  But when He came up to it, He found nothing but leaves, for the fig season had not yet come.  And He said to it.  No one ever again shall ear fruit from you.  And His disciples were listening (to what He said).”

th (1)I read this verse out of The Amplified Bible, and I finally got it.  This version tells me that the fruit of the fig tree comes at the same times as the leaves.  When Jesus saw the leaves and no fruit he cursed the tree because it was a phony.

In other words…if we only serve the church in name only and bear no fruit.  We are phony!

We have a friend who just had knee surgery.  He called and asked us if we could come and clean his fish tank.  Ewww!  Now, I could have thought of a thousand excuses not to do it and believe me I thought about it.  th

What kind of example would I be to this new believer?  I would be a fig tree bearing no fruit.   Going to church every Sunday proclaiming to be His servant but in reality only serving when it was convent for me and something I wanted to do.  “Me” centered; not “God” centered!

th (2)People are searching for God in and through His people.  Are they seeing something different or the same ole same ole?

In Matthew 11:17 Jesus said “Come after me and be My disciples, and I will make you to become fishers of men.”

Have you ever been fishing?  If not; you probably don’t know that fishermen use different bait or lures to catch different kinds of fish.

As a “fisher” of men the Lord ask that we be an example in all areas of our life; like how we act and speak.

Some will respond to the way we act with love and grace while others will respond by hearing our joy and peace.

Cast that line and keep it tight.  Let’s go fishing! ~Debra
