Faith Over Fear~

March 24, 2016 — Leave a comment

faith over fearEarly this morning, I stopped by Chick-fil-a to pick up some breakfast treats. As I waited for my order, I was drawn to their marquee.  It simply said, “Faith over Fear.”

I pondered what they were referencing and finally decided it must be related to our upcoming Presidential election. Many in the US are crying out to God for Him to save us from ourselves. We are desperate for Godly leadership.

These days bring incredible upheaval throughout the world and in our own home towns.  Even as we wring our hands and wonder what the future holds, we must again remember scripture.

Daniel 2:21 says:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.”

crownAlthough Daniel penned these words hundreds of years ago, our God has not changed. His wisdom and power stands, and He still raises up and removes “kings.”

In 1 Timothy 2, Paul urges us to pray for those in authority. And this is where we circle back around to Chick-fil-a in Abilene, Texas.

Our faith in the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient Creator of everything must rise above our fear and uncertainty of the unknown in all things from a shaky job market to who will be elected President of the United States of America.

So, Love Heart, as you go about your day, give praise to the name of God and rest confidently that He’s in complete control. After all, He is the King of Kings, and remember to let your Faith rise above your fear.  Gwen~

Peace, Man!

This has always been one of my favorite scriptures.  Found in Acts 17:28, it simply says, “For in him we live and move and have our being.”(NIV)  Wow.  What does that mean to you?  I see it as He is our everything!  If you are a Christian, Jesus the Messiah resides in you.  What an awesome thought.  You’re never alone – never without everything you need.

The devil, also known as the accuser, whispers those negative things in your ears.  He whispers failure and hurt and self-pity. Right now I know you can you hear the particular things he whispers to you.

In John 16:33 Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

There it is in black and white.  You’re going to have troubles long as you’re alive.  But, the troubles of this world have been conquered by Christ.  Hang on to the hem of His garment. Live and move and have your being in Him.  The opportunity is there for the taking.  Gwen~

Sufficient Courage

October 15, 2015 — Leave a comment

Have you ever been afraid of something?  You needed courage…but didn’t know where to find it.  God’s word gives us the answers we need to get us through any situation.

Courage is for anything you absolutely do NOT want to do…or scared to do; Paul was in prison and DID NOT WANT TO BE THERE, but simply needed sufficient courage for right then!

“Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.” (Philippians 1:19-20, NIV)

Fear goes exactly where we tell it to go!  We can move fear from the back of our minds to the front with one swift thought! We shift our concentration away from our courage by focusing on what is frightening us.  Therefore,…strengthening the fear.

Stop it!!  Choose to push through the fear…”Sufficient Courage.”

Sufficient:  ample, enough, plenty.  Courage:  bravery, guts, nerve, daring…

God will give you just what you need at that very moment!  “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13, KJV)

Those self-imposed barriers are broken and you begin to grow in His strength!  “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8, NIV

Cling to the word and Gods promise and reward.  (Psalms 119:116, Romans 14:8, I Corinthians 6:20, 2 Corinthians 3:12 and 7:4, I Peter 4:16)

Fear Not~

August 4, 2015 — Leave a comment

Several people I know are already doing the countdown to Christmas!  That’s not all bad.

The celebration of our promised Savior’s birth should always bring us joy!

Sometimes it’s good to remember the things which have given us strength and courage – even if it is August in Texas and 100 degrees in the shade!

There is a great song called “Fear Not” in a Christmas musical entitled Peace, Hope and Joy arranged by worship leader and Dove Award-winner Travis Cottrell.  The opening lines are, “For those who think your prayers have all been worthless.  For those who think your chains are yours for life.”

As I recall those words, I know that many, many of us have been in that position at one time or another thinking we were totally and completely outnumbered and alone.  There seemed to be no way out of the situation we were in.  So your enemy would have you believe.  If you believe that Jesus is the Savior and have claimed Him as your own, you will never be alone again.

So, Love Heart, my words of encouragement to you today are these…”Fear Not!”  Gwen~

As I read the great book of Joshua in the Old Testament, I underlined all the times it said “Do not be afraid” and “Be strong and courageous.”  In the first 11 chapters there were probably 10 phrases underlined.

God was repeatedly reminding Joshua if he would just do as he had been instructed he had no reason to fear – no matter what he faced.  God was encouraging him, as a father encourages his son.  Do you need to be encouraged today?  Are you afraid of something?

If you are fearful, please take the source of your fear to God.  Let Him advise you.  God sees the whole parade, not just the band currently in view.

At the end of Joshua’s life, he tells the people, “Now I am about to go the way of the earth.  You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed.  Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.” (Joshua 23:14 NIV)   Guess what?  God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  Trust Him. Gwen~
