I received a note from a friend the other day of an account of a young woman who was speaking to a group on stress! She turned around picked up a glass of water, and everyone smiled…knowing what she was going to ask! ‘half empty or half full?’ …she fooled everyone. “How heavy is this glass of water? she asked with a smile.
Answers varied from 8 oz. to 20 oz. She replied, “The weight doesn’t matter. It’s how long I have to hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance. In each case it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.
Isn’t that they way it is with our burdens. Our worry, confusion, helplessness, just becomes too much to carry!
Let’s put our burdens down. Why not try laying them at the feet of Jesus?
If you need someone to talk to, let Him lead you through prayer to a trusted friend or professional to confide in.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted it is for your comfort, which produces in your patient endurance of the same suffering we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-7, NIV)
Gonna lay down my burdens…Deb~
