Go Fish

imageI’m reading this wonderful book, The Circle Maker, by Mark Batterson.

This morning he’s recounting the time when Jesus and his disciples were in Capernaum and they were asked for the temple tax.

Jesus told Peter to go fishing!  What?  Yep, to go fishing and the first fish he caught he was too look it’s mouth and he would find four-drachma.  He was to use this to pay the taxes.

If I was Peter, I would probably thinking, uh…I’m  a professional fisherman and I’ve never caught one with four drachma in it before.

Long story short, if you’ve caught thousands of fish in your life time, how do you have faith to believe the next one will have a coin in it?  How do you know that God will keep his promise?  “Obey the crazy prompting!”

“If you want to see crazy miracles, obey the crazy promings of the Holy Spirit”, Go Fish~Debra

Jonah was one of the good ole boys as long as he got his way!  He was commanded by God to go and do something he didn’t want to do.  He didn’t go and there were consequences.  Like….living in the belly of a fish!

Take a look at the book of Jonah for the rest of the story.  Oh…come on, it’s not that long.  Here are some lessons we can learn from Jonah as you read.

  • a deserter will jeopardize others
  • a well spoken word bathed in anger will not bring its full reward
  • a victorious warrior unhappy with the outcome will miss the celebration

Thank You pastor, Mike Woodard for this insight!  Deb~
