I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with Thanksgiving(Psalm 69:30)

Give Thanks!

Thanksgiving is my very favorite holiday!  When my parents were living, it was the one time of year that my family was all together.  There were scads of us and it was a glorious day.  I truly miss those days.  Mom and Dad and one of my brothers are all in heaven and the rest of us are scattered to the winds.

If you are able to be with your family this special Thursday, enjoy every moment.  It’s doesn’t matter how much Cousin (Insert Name) gets on your nerves, love her!  There will come a day when her spot at the table will be empty.

While Thanksgiving is a wonderful time, I know all the holidays are hard on those who have lost family members, especially recently.  Know this, there are those who are thinking about you and praying for you.  There are those who share your pain.  In spite of the empty spot at your table, please don’t forget to give Thanks to God for all you have.

Another way to make the most of the day is to invite someone you know will be alone to your house.  And don’t forget there are many areas who collect food and clothing for those less fortunate.  Thanks to Love and Care Ministries in Abilene, Texas for their annual Mission Thanksgiving.  Gwen~

Service please!

Can you believe it’s almost Christmas.  Time just flies.  During December we are remind to give.  Giving comes in many ways; a service, a smile, clothing, a toy, a kind word, food, a prayer, or a few minutes of your time.

Anything that will brighten or make someone’s day a better one! Give from your heart and watch it grow!  As a child of God we are called to service.

“…to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to obey his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and all your soul.” (Joshua 22:5, NIV)

“…As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15, NIV)

“… ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’

“There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.” (Corinthians 12:5-6, NIV)

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 3:11, NIV)

God’s word tells me that it is about HIM working through me to serve others.

I challenge you this Christmas season to search your heart and be in prayer about how God would have you to serve.

…Well done, good and faithful servant! (Matthew 25:21, NIV)  ~Deb

Wylie Pep Club

May 4, 2011 — 1 Comment

Just finished singing for my in-laws pep club at Wylie Baptist Church . You know, the kind of thing where everyone brings a covered dish.

Gets their dessert first and waits for it to be their tables turn to go get the real food.  What a treat!

Thank You, God for the privilege of singing Your praises.  As I scanned the audience what a blessing I received as I saw face after face shine with recognition of words they’d heard before fill the air.

Some smiling, some eyes closed, some singing, all with appreciation of Christ love and sacrifice.

As I begin one song.  “Praise His Name”.  You could see a change in the faces.  What was it? Recognition?

A reminder that we ALL go through “things” but during those times of hardship, hurt, loneliness, we are never alone.

If we will just “Praise His Name” you can praise the hurt away!!

Life’s not always fair, we can run away and hide, let the old man decide, or we can change our circumstances with a prayer…

When everything falls apart, praise His name,

When you  have a broken heart,

raise your hands and say, Greater is He that is within me,

You can praise the hurt of away, if you’ll just praise His name
