Archives For friends

When my children were growing up my husband and I helped in the youth department at our church.

My son introduced me to a young man that was at church visiting and they seemed to have hit it off.

I wasn’t impressed.  This young man was outside of the box…long, saggin shorts, chains hanging from his pockets, spiked hair, and pierced ears.  I had grown up in a VERY conservation household.

I was going to keep an eye on this one especially if he was going to hang around my son.

In doing so; I learned a lot about this young man.  His parents were divorced and it wasn’t pretty.  They fought constantly and he was caught in the middle.  They expected him to choose and be loyal to one or the other.

After several months of being with this young man we became very good friends.  The Lord just opened my heart for him and I was able to listen while he expressed his heart.

One day he was telling me how his mother was bad mouthing his father.  He seemed so troubled.  I could see that he was wrestling with something.

I looked at him and said…you know all the things your mother is saying about your father are true, but he is still your father and you wish your mother wouldn’t talk like that about him. He looked up into my eyes with sorrow and we prayed together.

Months later we had an exercise in our group.  A person was put into the middle of a circle and those surrounding him were to tell what that person meant to them.

You guessed it…I was put in the circle.  When it came to this young man…he said; she hears my “Whispers!”

Love Heart, we serve a wonderful, mighty God; who gives us the ability to serve others.

What I would have missed if I had kept my distance from the young man because he didn’t fit MY expectations.  If God hadn’t prevailed upon me to just to listen and support.

Alan and I are still friends today.  He is now married with children of his own.  I will hear a knock at my door …and there he is.  What a blessing! ~Debra

Unlikely Duo

Growing up is hard and this ole world isn’t always a pleasant place to be. People are cruel and say mean and senseless things.

How do we overcome such things? Love Heart, do what is right even if it hurts. Even if we lose friends, even if others think you are crazy! Don’t stand around and allow others to diminish another’s life!

“He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.”
(Proverbs 21:21, NIV)

As I watched this video my heart just sings! His friend is helping this shy, overweight young man reach for his dream (notice how his mic is shaking) . In turn…what does she get? Stomped on!

What does the young man do…stands firm on the friendship even when it may cost him his dream.

They are a Duo…
1. two items of the same kind
2. two performers or singers who perform together
3. a pair who associate with one another

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where mouth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-24, NIV)

I give this young Duo a HUGE round of applause!! ~Debra

Anyone in Particular?

th (11)Does God ever bring anyone in particular to your mind? You think to yourself, I have seen them in years.

I have a young man that worked for me several years ago.  He was completing his Master’s Degree and we shared a love of music.  He came in one day and couldn’t wait to share his newest discovery; “Washed by the Water” by Need to Breathe.  He even amplified it with some speakers.  It is a great song with a fabulous message!

th (14)I haven’t seen that young man for years, but every time I hear that song, the Holy Spirit puts him on my heart.  I lift him and his family in prayer.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28, NIV)

Isn’t it wonderful how God puts people in our life for a season, and they end up changing us for a life time? th (15)

Love Heart, take time to listen to that still, quiet voice. Praise God; we are “Washed by the Water!” ~Debra

th (1)“One day as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there.  And the power of the Lord was present for him to heal the sick. Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus.  When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on this mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 5:5:17-20, NIV)

Now thats what I call a group of “Best” friends~Debra

Make It!!

th (12)I love looking through decorating magazines.  And though I’m probably not going to spend the prices their asking; I do get a lot of inspiration.

Where does your inspiration come from?    There is so much out there that we must constantly be on guard.  What we read, watch, listen to and who we spend our time with.  As my mother says …”Garbage in, Garbage Out!”    th (14)

How do we distinguish when something is good or bad for us?  Anything contrary to the word of God; that’s your answer.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12, NIV)  th (15)

His word tells us that it’s a condition of the heart.  Is your heart obedient or does it have a rebellious attitude. Do you want to find yourself in a heap of trouble; step across that line.

“…But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15, NIV)

We’ve been given the guide book to draw inspiration from.  The choice is yours…Make it! ~Debra

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1, NIV)
