Archives For God

Discouragement can rob you of your peace, joy and satisfaction.  But I have GREAT news.  You’re not trapped!

I know people who seem to be in pickle! Then in a few years they are in a better place.

Either their circumstances or emotions have changed.  Why?…you may be asking.  They never gave up!!  Instead of wallowing in self-pity, they made the decision to believe God!

Nehemiah is a perfect example. (Nehemiah 2:1-8, NIV) He had every reason to be discouraged.  His people were in trouble and after receiving news that the city wall had been demolished, this man of God was very disappointed and grieved.  The pain was so great, but Nehemiah didn’t allow himself to stay in this pit.  He cried out to God for direction.

Sadness wasn’t allowed in the company of royalty and would lead to death.  But God answered Nehemiah’s prayer and incited the King to realize his servant’s sadness and how he could help.  This wonder led to the rebuilding of wall and the deliverance of God’s people.

God can take any situation and turn it around!  Do you live in anticipation of what God is going to do?  Or do you live in despair?   God can take your petition…just like Nehemiah’s…and turn it into something wonderful.  Don’t allow negative emotions to take a stronghold, call on God!  Deb~

Has your world ever been turned so upside down that all you could do was cry out to God?  Mine has-many times. Honestly, I just don’t know what I would have done if I couldn’t have called on Him.  I’ve been so upset that I couldn’t even put words to my prayer…all I could do was call out His Holy Name!  And, I knew He was the only one Who could help.

Love Heart, if you don’t have an intimate relationship with Jesus, today might be the day for you to start one.  He’s waiting!  He’s not somewhere way out in the universe and untouchable.  He’s got His full attention turned toward you, always…and He’s waiting!  In John 14:6 Jesus Himself says, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  He is faithful.  You will not be disappointed! Psalm 46:10…What does it mean when we are told to “be still”?  The word “be still” comes from the Hebrew term raphah.   It’s defined as that which is slack, or to let drop or disheartened or weak.

In our eagerness to fulfill our obligations we find ourselves relying on our own unique skills.  We rush ahead taking all the credit!

In our weakest moments God can do his greatest work…why? …Because we are Fully Relying On God (F.R.O.G.) and God alone.

Love Heart, “Be Still”, let God control your actions and give Him the glory!  Debra

Death and Taxes

You can be sure of two things… “Death and Taxes” I’ve heard this saying as long as I can remember.  I guess it came to mind because I need to have my taxes done.  Yuk!

I hate giving away my hard earned money…don’t you?  Then this scripture came to mind… “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” (Mark 12:17, NIV)

Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s…MONEY, and to God what is God’s…YOUR LIFE!

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heat will be also.  (Matthew 6:19-21, NIV)

Whispers

When my children were growing up my husband and I helped in the youth department at our church.

My son introduced me to a young man that was at church visiting and they seemed to have hit it off.

I wasn’t impressed.  This young man was outside of the box…long, saggin shorts, chains hanging from his pockets, spiked hair, and pierced ears.  I had grown up in a VERY conservation household.

I was going to keep an eye on this one especially if he was going to hang around my son.

In doing so; I learned a lot about this young man.  His parents were divorced and it wasn’t pretty.  They fought constantly and he was caught in the middle.  They expected him to choose and be loyal to one or the other.

After several months of being with this young man we became very good friends.  The Lord just opened my heart for him and I was able to listen while he expressed his heart.

One day he was telling me how his mother was bad mouthing his father.  He seemed so troubled.  I could see that he was wrestling with something.

I looked at him and said…you know all the things your mother is saying about your father are true, but he is still your father and you wish your mother wouldn’t talk like that about him. He looked up into my eyes with sorrow and we prayed together.

Months later we had an exercise in our group.  A person was put into the middle of a circle and those surrounding him were to tell what that person meant to them.

You guessed it…I was put in the circle.  When it came to this young man…he said; she hears my “Whispers!”

Love Heart, we serve a wonderful, mighty God; who gives us the ability to serve others.

What I would have missed if I had kept my distance from the young man because he didn’t fit MY expectations.  If God hadn’t prevailed upon me to just to listen and support.

Alan and I are still friends today.  He is now married with children of his own.  I will hear a knock at my door …and there he is.  What a blessing! ~Debra
