Arky, Arky!

March 29, 2017 — Leave a comment

Why do you think that Brother Noah was chosen to build the ark? (Genesis 6:9-22, NIV)  Could it have been his lifestyle of commitment and obedience which requires great perseverance??

He was instructed by God to build an ark.  God spelled out the exact specifications…roof, doors, three decks, type of wood, and the way to make the ark watertight.  It was crucial that Noah stick to every detail if the vessel was going to accommodate all the animals and stay afloat.

Can you imagine the reaction from his fellowman?  The disbelief, rejection, laughter and ridicule!  Yet, “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”(Genesis 6:22, NIV)

The Lord wants us to follow His instructions exactly!  Buuut, we usually want to add a little of our own stuff into the mix.  It becomes our will and not his.  This is not obedience.

We can’t pick and choose which scripture or parts of scripture we WANT to obey.  God has made a plan and provision for your life.  God blesses those who wholeheartedly follow Him.

“Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be.  My father will honor the one who serves me.”(John 12:26, NIV)

Why not make obedience your goal?  We all feel inadequate, but trust in the Lord and He will guide you with whatever he places before you!  “Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”  (Psalm 25:4, NIV)

Let the Holy Spirit empower you to follow the path of obedience and righteousness. Deb~

What I’m Thankful For~

November 22, 2016 — Leave a comment

This week, as I reflect on all that I’m thankful for, the thing that has to be at the top of the list is the forgiveness of my sins by the blood of Jesus.  I’m thankful that God has made a way for me to live with Him forever.

I will be posting a series of blogs about the way to get to heaven.  Now, I know that many around the world may disagree with me on this, but Love Heart, know this…it’s not my story…it’s His.

You may not understand, but if you will earnestly seek God, I promise He will not hide Himself from you.  His Holy Spirit will help you to understand. Gwen~

A few years ago, I met a woman and her family who were staying at a facility where I was.  All we said was “hello” but I saw her and her husband and their children regularly over the course of the week.  I’ve not seen her again since then…probably because it was over 5000 miles from my home.

God has brought this woman to my mind many times.  In my mind’s eye, I can see her as clearly as if she were in the same room.  Now, why does she keep popping into my mind?

My experience tells me that when anybody repeatedly comes to mind, I need to pray for them, so pray I have.  When I told my friends about this experience, Beverly told us of a time when God woke her up in the middle of the night and instructed her to pray for Emily.  Now the catch is that Beverly didn’t know a single person named Emily.

As we discussed this unusual event and tried to make sense of it, all we could determine is God is seeking our obedience.  He does not need my weak and insufficient prayers to help anyone, but I need to be obedient to His voice, whatever it says.

So, dear one, if you happen to read this blog and God reminds you of me or you recognize me, know that I and some of my friends who met you also, have been praying for you.  We don’t know what your need is, but we are certain that God does.

And, know that you are loved by us – even if we don’t know your name.  Gwen~

Speak Up!

September 6, 2016 — Leave a comment

One evening I listened intently as a young woman in our church told of an opportunity God had given her.  She was in an airport on the other side of the world waiting for her connecting flight.  A woman and her family sat next to her.

Suddenly, God prompted her to start a conversation with this woman.  She was very nervous and resisted, but God continued to prod.  Finally she started with some small talk.

Eventually, she was able to share the Gospel of Jesus with this woman.  This young woman was totally taken aback when she mentioned Jesus’ name and the lady responded, “Jesus who?”

For those of us who cut our teeth on a crib in the church nursery it’s astounding.  But, for so many millions around the planet it’s a reasonable response.  I was so grateful that she had been obedient to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

Can you imagine being the first one to ever share about Jesus with someone?  What if she had resisted?  You know, God had my young friend in just that place just at that point in time prepared with the words He had for this woman.  How amazing is our God?

Love Heart, if the Holy Spirit prompts you to do anything, jump on it!  All you have to do is be obedient.  You’re not responsible for the results…just doing your part.  Praise God for His incredible plans.  Join Him!  Gwen~

Shut My Mouth!

August 18, 2016 — Leave a comment

medfr17018Long ago there was a vivid expression of surprise – “Well, shut my mouth!”

Lately, the Holy Spirit Who resides in me has been doing just that – shutting my mouth! When I’m tempted to give my opinion, the words no sooner get out my mouth until He tells me to be quiet or He may prompt that I shouldn’t have said that.  I have learned that when this happens, I need an immediate response.

You see, we have a tendency to look at everything with our inferior human eyes instead of viewing the situation through the Eyes of God. He Who knows the end from the beginning knows all the components to any situation.  Actually, He and He alone, knows the best answer in any circumstance!  Things can get especially dicey when we try to give our “advice” to someone who may be in a life altering situation.  Our ill-thought words can shatter families, murder the unborn, and encourage sinful behavior in our friends.

While it may sometimes seem like He is far off and not paying attention to us, that’s just not the case. psalm 33-18Psalm 33:18 says, “But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love.” (NIV)

When you tune yourself into Him, you can hear much clearer than when you don’t. He is amazing in so very many ways.  Love Heart, submit yourself completely to His authority and watch the changes that will happen in your life!  Gwen~
