I went to a luncheon this week and the speaker was Mamie McCullough.
She shared a story with us of a time she and her children were spending a lazy Saturday afternoon.
Several of the neighborhood children came over so she suggested they make mud pies ( 2 parts dirt, 1 part water) and decorate them. She would judge them and award ribbons.
The children thought this was a fine idea. They went scrambling to make their pies while she went to find the ribbons.
Time came for the judging. The first pie was made by her oldest. It was beeeauuutiful. He was awarded a blue ribbon. Her middle child, beeauuutiful, awarded a blue ribbon. Her third child, you guessed it, beeauuutiful, awarded a blue ribbon.
The neighborhood children started screaming foul. You gave all the blue ribbons to your children. She replies, If you want a blue ribbon let your mother be the judge!
Her next words made me stop and think! “If my child can’t be first place in my own yard, something is wrong!!
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Mark 10:14, NIV)
“And he took the children in his arms, put his hand on them and blessed them.” (Mark 10:16, NIV)
Love Heart, we must support and encourage our own children. They deserve our unconditional love! Deb~
