Whispers

March 9, 2017 — Leave a comment

When my children were growing up my husband and I helped in the youth department at our church.

My son introduced me to a young man that was at church visiting and they seemed to have hit it off.

I wasn’t impressed.  This young man was outside of the box…long, saggin shorts, chains hanging from his pockets, spiked hair, and pierced ears.  I had grown up in a VERY conservation household.

I was going to keep an eye on this one especially if he was going to hang around my son.

In doing so; I learned a lot about this young man.  His parents were divorced and it wasn’t pretty.  They fought constantly and he was caught in the middle.  They expected him to choose and be loyal to one or the other.

After several months of being with this young man we became very good friends.  The Lord just opened my heart for him and I was able to listen while he expressed his heart.

One day he was telling me how his mother was bad mouthing his father.  He seemed so troubled.  I could see that he was wrestling with something.

I looked at him and said…you know all the things your mother is saying about your father are true, but he is still your father and you wish your mother wouldn’t talk like that about him. He looked up into my eyes with sorrow and we prayed together.

Months later we had an exercise in our group.  A person was put into the middle of a circle and those surrounding him were to tell what that person meant to them.

You guessed it…I was put in the circle.  When it came to this young man…he said; she hears my “Whispers!”

Love Heart, we serve a wonderful, mighty God; who gives us the ability to serve others.

What I would have missed if I had kept my distance from the young man because he didn’t fit MY expectations.  If God hadn’t prevailed upon me to just to listen and support.

Alan and I are still friends today.  He is now married with children of his own.  I will hear a knock at my door …and there he is.  What a blessing! ~Debra

Ouch!

Ouch!  I hate when I get a paper cut…It’s such a small cut but boy does it hurt!!  Seems like it just bleeds forever and continues to hurt throughout the day!  It makes me so mad, foolish I know.

Do you know someone that has been hurt by something?  A hurt that’s sharp and fresh like my paper cut.  They continue to be angry and blame God and others.

You may think it’s foolish and want to give them some words of wisdom or scripture to cling to but really what they need for you to do is LISTEN.

Remember when they were hurling insults at Jesus. They were angry and out of control. He didn’t say a word …Matthew 27:12

They’re not ready to hear what we know to be true.  God is in control and He knows their hurt!

We need to give them comfort by being their sounding board.  Just listen…then pray!  It can have a lasting effect on their lives.

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  (Psalms 46:10, NIV

We were created with one mouth and two ears…He must have done that for a reason!       ~Deb

Make It!!

th (12)I love looking through decorating magazines.  And though I’m probably not going to spend the prices their asking; I do get a lot of inspiration.

Where does your inspiration come from?    There is so much out there that we must constantly be on guard.  What we read, watch, listen to and who we spend our time with.  As my mother says …”Garbage in, Garbage Out!”    th (14)

How do we distinguish when something is good or bad for us?  Anything contrary to the word of God; that’s your answer.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12, NIV)  th (15)

His word tells us that it’s a condition of the heart.  Is your heart obedient or does it have a rebellious attitude. Do you want to find yourself in a heap of trouble; step across that line.

“…But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15, NIV)

We’ve been given the guide book to draw inspiration from.  The choice is yours…Make it! ~Debra

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1, NIV)

Paper Cut

Listen to Me

November 1, 2012 — Leave a comment

Don’t you like confirmation that you’re doing something right?  I sure do!

When someone comes to me with a problem, seeking advice, I find myself asking the Lord to give me just the right words to say.  I read this in my devotion this morning and praised the Lord for his unfailing love.~Debra

“Learn To Listen To Me even while you are listening to other people.  As they open their souls to your scrutiny, you are on holy ground.  You need the help of My Spirit to respond appropriately.  Ask Him to think through you, live through you, love through you.  My own Being is alive within you in the Person of the Holy Spirit.  If you respond to others’ needs through your unaided thought processes, you offer them dry crumbs.  My streams of living water flow through you to other people.  Be a channel of My Love, Joy, and Peace by listening to Me as you listen to others.”

Exodus 3:5 5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”

1 Corinthians 6:19 19 “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.”

John 7:38-39 38 “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” 39By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.”
