Archives For Mary

Sisters

January 5, 2015 — 2 Comments

“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.  She had a sister called Mary, who sat  at at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.”  (Luke 10:38-39, NIV)

This is a tale of two sisters and a choice…

Martha has opened her home to Jesus and the disciples.  Being a woman, she wanted everything perfect.

House cleaned, get out the good dishes…what to cook?!?!  I’m sure that Martha was barking out orders right and left.  This was Jesus after all!

WHERE was Mary?  She should be helping.

Martha was searching everywhere! As she rounds the corner her anger boils as she sees her lazy sibling sitting at the feet of Jesus.

Martha was having none of this.  She walks up to Jesus and demands that Mary come and help her.

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “You are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her. ” (Luke 10:38-42, NIV)

Decisions…we have to make them everyday.

I have a hunger and a calling to know and love God more.  What about you?  Let’s look for the heart-to-heart intimacy that Mary longed for!

I must confess…I’m a Martha but I’m working on being more like Mary.  ~Debra

“While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.  She wrapped him in cloths and laid him in a manager, because there was no room in the inn. ” (Luke 2:6-7, NIV)

Each of us is an Innkeeper who decides if there is room for Jesus in our life. ~Debra

Linus

With Christmas just around the corner I was reading both accounts of Jesus birth  from Matthew and Luke.

As I was reading from Luke 2:8 I could hear a little voice…Linus, from Charlie Brown as he recites the true meaning of Christmas.

Notice what happens when he says “Fear Not”…

We should all take note of the Gospels and the HEART of this little boy!

“And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”  (Matthew 18:3, NIV)

When you think about it…it all come down to the changing of your Heart! ~Deb

Foretold

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1: 26-37, NIV)

Can you imagine how frighten Mary must of been?

It was suppose to be a time of celebration! She was to be married to Joseph but now finds herself in an unusual situation.  One that could possibly cost her the trust and love of her intended, plus her very life.

Mary chooses to trust God!  “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. (Luke 1:38, NIV)
