Arky, Arky!

Why do you think that Brother Noah was chosen to build the ark? (Genesis 6:9-22, NIV)  Could it have been his lifestyle of commitment and obedience which requires great perseverance??

He was instructed by God to build an ark.  God spelled out the exact specifications…roof, doors, three decks, type of wood, and the way to make the ark watertight.  It was crucial that Noah stick to every detail if the vessel was going to accommodate all the animals and stay afloat.

Can you imagine the reaction from his fellowman?  The disbelief, rejection, laughter and ridicule!  Yet, “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”(Genesis 6:22, NIV)

The Lord wants us to follow His instructions exactly!  Buuut, we usually want to add a little of our own stuff into the mix.  It becomes our will and not his.  This is not obedience.

We can’t pick and choose which scripture or parts of scripture we WANT to obey.  God has made a plan and provision for your life.  God blesses those who wholeheartedly follow Him.

“Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be.  My father will honor the one who serves me.”(John 12:26, NIV)

Why not make obedience your goal?  We all feel inadequate, but trust in the Lord and He will guide you with whatever he places before you!  “Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”  (Psalm 25:4, NIV)

Let the Holy Spirit empower you to follow the path of obedience and righteousness. Deb~

Sonflower

I just love Sunflowers, don’t you?  They’re so bright and cheery, bold yet comfortable.

The leaves are heart shaped; they stand proud and strong, faces raised as a reflection of God’s love.  Did you know that there isn’t much that can stop a sunflower from growing?  These bold flowers are very persistent.

I’ve seen them take root and push through cracks in concrete.  This unique flower also draws impurities from the soil and still blooms into a beautiful creation.

This bright yellow flower is a constant reminder to me I will face obstacles, but if I push through and allow God to sift away the impurities, there are seeds of hope awaiting me.

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” (Hebrews 10:36, NIV)

Just as the sunflower is drawn by the sun, we are sought by His Son!!~Debra

Understanding

April 15, 2015 — Leave a comment

My husband had gone to men’s prayer breakfast and to enjoy some skeet shooting with the boys and I enjoyed sleeping in until 9:00 which rarely happens anymore.

Fixed myself some breakfast and went out on the deck to have my quite time.

Cool breeze, Bible and Dr Pepper.  What more could a woman ask for?

My devotion was on understanding the Bible.  How many times have you heard someone say they don’t understand what the Bible is saying, even believers?

The key to understanding the Bible is obedience.  When we act on what we read the scripture “comes alive.”

Why should God continue to reveal his word to us if we are not going to obey it?  “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding.  To Him belongs eternal praise.” (Psalms 111:10)

Obedience is they key to understanding! Deb~

79 Years Strong

April 25, 2014 — Leave a comment

imageToday is my father’s 79th Birthday, now that is something to celebrate!  What’s even greater, he is now a “doer of the word and not a hearer only!”

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” (James 1:22, NIV)

My father has always been a believer, but never felt the need to be part of a church fellowship or to make a public profession of Christ.

“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.   But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.)  Matthew 10:32-33

As I entered adulthood and had children of my own, my father begin to come to church.  He still didn’t deem it necessary to make a public profession or to be a member of our fellowship.   His relationship with God was just that…between him and God.

th (1)I know with all my heart that my father has always been a believer and that his salvation was secure, but he was missing out on so much by not being obedient to God’s word.

Aren’t we all in that same boat?  As we read God’s word we are faithful in following some of his teaching, but some of it…well, it’s a little too much to take.  We find ourselves saying, “He wants me to do what?”

Believer, take that step to not only be a” hearer of the word but a doer!  As you do, your life begins to transform in ways that are just unbelievable.

On a side note, with love and prayer from fellow believers, my father did make his profession of faith and has never looked back.  He serves God with a passion as never before.  Never, ever give up!  God has a plan! (Jeremiah 29:11)~Debra
