A school librarian told of a group of students who loved entering the writing contests that she frequently held. Lots of participation was the norm until IT happened. This paper required research. The students immediately balked. As long as they could write easily about something they knew, everything was great. But when extra effort was required, the waters became turbulent.
Being the wise woman she is, she gathered the students around and had them look at the famous faces staring back at them from posters scattered around the library. She asked, “What would have happened if he would have quit? What would have happened if she would have quit?” Her message was clear…Don’t Give Up! Don’t Quit! She went on to say that too many times in her life she had quit when the going got hard.
That resounded deep within my soul. Why do we quit when things get hard? Do we believe we can’t accomplish whatever the task is before we even give it a try? Is it because our rearing led us to believe that? Or, is it that we’d rather just not try than fail?
As I look back on my life, I wonder just how much I could have accomplished if I’d had the confidence enough to try! Now I find myself praying for God to help me get all He has for me. I don’t want to miss a single opportunity to serve my Savior. Sometimes, it is hard, and sometimes I feel like quitting. But, Love Heart, I “press on” as my friend Chris Raley says.
Philippians 3:13-14 tells us, “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Don’t quit. Forget what is behind – press on! Gwen~
