I’m Hungry…

Hunger…a craving or urgent need for….

Are you a person after God’s heart? Are you curious about what makes Him tick?  How do you find the answers?

A hunger for God doesn’t just come to us one day.  It must be cultivated.  You begin with your Bible reading…that’s were we listen and God speaks.

“Blessed is the man who doesn’t not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.  He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields it’s fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.  Whatever he does prospers.”  (Psalms 1:1-3, NIV)

Another aspect is prayer.  If reading scripture just doesn’t do it for you.  Ask the Lord to make scripture come alive and be at work in your life.

“I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.  Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. (Psalms 116:1-2, NIV)

Slow down and think about what you’ve read.  What you’ve uncovered and how it applies to your life.

“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (Joshua 1:8, NIV)

Love Heart, you must keep at it.  Your hunger might not surface right away.  You’re working on a life change not a quick fix.

Keep filling yourself with the God’s word, prayer and reflection.  It will bring about transformation. ~ Debra

Mirror, Mirror~

My sweet friend, Johnnie, just had cataract surgery.  She is in her 80’s and very sharp-witted and wonderful.  When I spoke with her, she said the greatest challenge is getting used to the face that she is seeing clearly for the first time in a long time.  It isn’t the one she remembers!

When Paul wrote to the saints in Corinth, he had this to say.

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” (1Cor. 13:12)

mirrorTwo things to notice here.  Our vision and understanding of heavenly things, no matter how much God has revealed to us, is only a reflection.  In other words, we’ve not seen the real thing.  Just a glimpse of what is to come.  At that time, we will know fully.

And the other thing?  We are fully known.  Love Heart, no matter how much you try to create that perfect persona, try to hide the evil lurking in your heart, or bluff your way out of a particular situation, there is One who knows you fully!

The God of the universe knows everything there is to know about you.  He knows your gifts and talents that may lay hidden and yet undiscovered by you. He knows your motive in any circumstance.

I guess what it all comes down to is this.  If He is the One who has the answers, why do we fight so hard against consulting Him in all situations?  Do we think it makes us look weak or indecisive?  Actually, I’m discovering it’s just the opposite.  Gwen~

Shine and Reflect

December 27, 2012 — Leave a comment

I have a wide selection of candles throughout my home.  The scent and glow create an atmosphere that gives me peace and contentment.

The light that they can create within a room is just amazing and I’m always looking for an excuse to light them up.

Now, what do you see when you look at a lit candle, just the light?

I see light…some bright, some not.  I see wax seeping, wicks shorten by burning, and some have black residue but their still shinning…giving off a reflection.

We are called to shine our light among men!  Sure, our wax may be seeping, wicks burned down and we might even have some black residue but love heart, you are never alone.  In His strength we can reflect His love and purpose.

He has promised,  “He will never leave us nor forsake us… (Deuteronomy 31:6)

“You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:13, NIV)
