Flee!

December 8, 2016 — Leave a comment

grackleI watched in amazement as a grackle, standing in a busy intersection, danced around oncoming traffic! Then this thought popped into my head:  “That’s just like we are with sin!”  Instead of running from it, we like to dance around it, hoping we won’t be run over by it.

I imagine God watches us thinking the same thing I did about the grackle – it’s only a matter of time before their foolish actions will catch up with them.

Let’s look at what the Bible has to say.

1 Timothy 6:11

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

2 Timothy 2:22

Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

James 4:7

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

1 Corinthians 6:18

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.

1 Corinthians 10:14

Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.

Looks like the operative word here is FLEE! Nothing indicates we should try to interact with sin in any way as the grackle did with the cars.  Don’t hang around doing things you know displease God.  It’s just a matter of time before you will be run over.  Gwen~

Washed by the Water!

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.” (1 John 1:9, NIV)

We will all face trials and temptations. Some days we will fall short of our goal, question ourselves and our walk with the Lord.   No matter the storm, Christ is a solid foundation! (Matthew 7:24-27,NIV)  We may waver…but HE won’t!

Impurity, fears, unbelief, doubt, anxiety, lust, worries, adultery, pride, drunkenness, selfishness, anger!

You’re forgiven!  Let the love of Christ wash over you! Deb~

“We we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions.” (Psalms 65:3, NIV)

Found this very inspiring. I want to make a difference…how about you?

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1, NIV)

Run you race! ~Debra

Give God a Try!

There are many around the world who believe in reincarnation.  As I understand it, when you die you can come back to earth as anything from an insect to a human.  Some also believe that eventually, you can achieve a release from the bondage you have been in on earth.  Notice I say, as I understand it.

God’s word tells us this in Hebrews 9:27-28, “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”

Love Heart, if you are seeking to understand the afterlife, please read God’s word.  He and He alone is the Authority on Life and Death.  Jesus Himself says in Revelation 1:17b-18, “Do not be afraid.  I am the First and the Last.  I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever!  And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”

Some of you may have experimented with many religions but have dismissed Christianity as something for the weak.  That couldn’t be further from the truth!  God will release you from the bondage of sin.  Give Him a try. Gwen~

Man of Riddles

August 25, 2015 — Leave a comment

Samson was a man of great strength but refused to deal with his weaknesses.

The Holy Spirit was moving in his life but he chose a path of pleasure. The Bible gives two accounts of Samson surrendering to temptation.

Judges 14 tells us of the account of his marriage and how his weakness led to exposure and Judges 16 tells of his lustful indulgence which led to his death.

* “Let me tell you a riddle, Samson said to them.  If you can give the answer within the seven days of the feast, I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes. If you can’t tell me the answer, you must give me thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.” (Judges 14:12, NIV)

* “Then she said to him, How can you say, ‘I love you’ when you won’t confined in me?”(Judges 16:15, NIV)

When we are too proud to admit to our weakness and live in defiance, it will lead to a lack of restraint and open the door to sin.

That’s what happened to Samson.  He exchanged God’s blessings for sexual pleasure and in the end he had nothing.

Sin…given the smallest chance will ruin every aspect of your life; relationships, faith, job and family.

If you are thinking you don’t have a weakness; Satan already has his hands on you, blinding you to the truth about yourself.

You have to make a choice to face temptation alone or ask for God’s strength to overcome?  ~Deb

* Be sure and Read Judges 13-16 for the full account of Samson.
