The Love of God

May 29, 2016 — Leave a comment

We sang a song in church Sunday that I learned as a child; “The Love of God.”  Gods love was taught and instilled in me as a child by my mother and her four sisters.  We sang together on many wonderful days at my grandparents.   It brought back such wonderful memories.

“For God so love the world He gave his one and only son, the whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16,NIV)

Sisters…

I love all kinds of music…don’t you?  It gives me joy, hope, strength and convicts me.  God speaks to me through song.

My love of music grew through my mother and her sisters.  Mom is the oldest of 5 girls.  Aunt Irene; plays the piano and sings tenor, Aunt Kathey sings Alto…she a mover and shaker, Aunt Barbara sings a powerful Alto,  Aunt Fran sings…..whatever she feels like at the moment and my mom, the lone soprano.

I remember those Saturday afternoon when we would all pack in my Nanny and Grandaddy’s 10×12 living room to sing.

Every Aunt, Uncle, cousin, sibling, spouse and neighbor would be there once they heard the “Floyd Sister’s” were singing.

As my mom and her sisters begin to sing and lift praises to the Lord; she would motion for me to stand beside her.  Little did they know that those wonderful afternoons they were being used of God to prepare me for this season of my life; with Love Heart Ministries.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians 6:9, NIV)

These ladies are up in years but they are still serving.  Next month they are having a sister’s weekend and are scheduled to sing at local nursing homes.

I can’t imagine a time when these ladies won’t be willing to sing for the Lord.  We are called to be examples and to serve. God’s word doesn’t mention an age limit.

“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.  We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20, NIV)

Sisters

“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.  She had a sister called Mary, who sat  at at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.”  (Luke 10:38-39, NIV)

This is a tale of two sisters and a choice…

Martha has opened her home to Jesus and the disciples.  Being a woman, she wanted everything perfect.

House cleaned, get out the good dishes…what to cook?!?!  I’m sure that Martha was barking out orders right and left.  This was Jesus after all!

WHERE was Mary?  She should be helping.

Martha was searching everywhere! As she rounds the corner her anger boils as she sees her lazy sibling sitting at the feet of Jesus.

Martha was having none of this.  She walks up to Jesus and demands that Mary come and help her.

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “You are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her. ” (Luke 10:38-42, NIV)

Decisions…we have to make them everyday.

I have a hunger and a calling to know and love God more.  What about you?  Let’s look for the heart-to-heart intimacy that Mary longed for!

I must confess…I’m a Martha but I’m working on being more like Mary.  ~Debra

91D05AE9God has instilled in me a passion of service through my sister, Laurie, who is deaf and mentally challenged.

You’ve heard the saying, “God work’s in mysterious ways?”  God has used my relationship with my sister to guide my growth and relationship with the Lord.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24)

If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others”.  (Philippians 2:1-4)

My precious sister is having surgery today and I would appreciate your prayers! ~Debra
