A Fishing Story

November 21, 2011 — Leave a comment

A father and son left early on a Saturday morning to spend the day fishing.  They fished all day and caught nothing.  All day… and nothing!

When they returned home tired from their long day, each wrote down the events of the day.

The father wrote:  Went fishing with my son today.  Didn’t catch anything.  A whole day wasted.

The son wrote:  Went fishing with my dad.  We didn’t catch anything.  Best day of my life.

Isn’t it  funny how two people doing the same thing can have a  such different perspective? Time spent with a loved one can never be time wasted.

When is the last time you sat with your child and read a book?  Went to your parents and sat and talked about the events of the day.  Spent some time with your brother and or sister…or both!  Met up with an old friend.  Life is too short…take time and spend it with the ones you love!  Maybe a few you don’t…make amends.

We have no promise of tomorrow, Love Heart, do it today!!  (1 Peter 1:24-25, NIV, John 10:28, NIV)~Deb

Have you heard about Random Acts of Kindness?  It was sort of a trendy thing a few years back, but recently I experienced it first hand, and there’s nothing like it.

Last week, my cocker, Isabelle, had to be put down.  It broke my heart and I cried like a baby when I dropped her off at the vet’s office for the last time.  We had brought her from Oregon to Texas when our son was just going into 3rd grade.  He’ll be 20 soon, so you see she was a part of our family for a long time.

At the vet’s office, the desk help was very kind.  As I paid, one of the ladies came around the counter and hugged me.  While I’m sure they see upset pet owners frequently, they were sensitive to my needs and expressed their concern.

A week later, a sympathy card came in the mail.  Not only was it signed by everybody who works at Key City Vet, it had Isabelle’s paw print on it!  I was completely overwhelmed by their kindness to me.  This wasn’t random, it was planned.

Kindness covers over hurt.  When I was a little girl, I memorized a scripture that said, “Be ye kind, one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another.”  Ephesians 4:32 KJV.  This advice I’m passing on.  Be kind, one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another!  Go the extra mile.  It will mean a lot!  And, thank you, Key City Vet.  Gwen~

My youngest son, Reid, has a bit of a temper.  When he was younger, I was constantly reminding him that he needed to be more patient by saying, “Patience is a Virtue!”  One afternoon he and his dad were working on his soap box derby car and Reid was having a little difficulty.  I smiled at him.  He proceeded to say before I could make a comment….Mom, patience is NOT a virchee!  We still tease him about it today.

Let’s take a look at the word “patience.” Definition:  endurance, staying power, tolerance, persistence. It’s been said be careful what you pray for because if you pray for patience you’ll get trials and situations that will test you at every turn.

Here are a view scriptures for your review. Psalms 40:1-3, Romans 12:12, Psalms 37:7, Philippians 4:11-13.

Look at Moses and the Israelites, Abraham and Sarah, David and Nehemiah to name a few of God’s people who grew through their persistence.

God knows best, His timing is impeccable and He keeps His promises!!  Patience IS a Virchee!!  Deb~

Here is a picture of Reid and his beautiful wife.  He grown up just a bit!
