Back in Shape

                Ask anybody who’s gone through a regimen of physical therapy, or PT as it’s lovingly known, and they will tell you the same thing.  It’s torture!  But the exercises are completely critical in helping your body heal correctly.

What about spiritual therapy?   If you’ve got something going on in your spirit that needs to be repaired, the Great Physician can show you the exercises necessary to clear up the problem.

They may include repentance, prayer, a change of attitude, or a surrendering of a part of yourself that to this point you have been unwilling to do.  Ouch!  The pain might be great, but like your body, your spirit longs to be whole.

You don’t have to be a spiritual cripple.  Your Heavenly Father does not want that for you! Everything you need to know is found in the Bible.  If you are unfamiliar with this precious book, ask someone who knows it.  I’m certain that they will consider it a privilege to help you.  Gwen~

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that come from the gospel of peace,.. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:11-17, NIV)

Our life is going to be full of challenges and obstacles.  In Ephesians 6, Paul tells us the real battle is in the Spiritual realm.  We can’t rely
on our own strength or we will be defeated. 

Wisdom Walks”  by Dan Britton & Jimmy Page, breaks it down like this.

    • Expect it… “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world. (John 16:33, NIV)
    • Be true…the Belt of Truth:  This holds all the other parts together and you’ll want to practice integrity and not be looking over your shoulder all the time waiting for a lie to catch up with you.
    • Be right…The Breastplate of Righteousness: True righteousness comes when your heart is made right through faith in Christ Jesus.  Asking forgiveness for sin everyday keep that protection in place.
    • Be ready…your feet fitted with readiness: Be ready to share the gospel, your faith in Christ!
    • Be sure…The Shield of Faith:  Faith protects you from the devil.  You’ll use anything and everything to trip you up.
    • Be smart…the Helmet of Salvation:  The helmet protects your mind.  “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”  (Romans 12:2, NIV).  When you meditate on His word and put it into action it easier to have a positive attitude.
    • Be skilled…The Sword of the Spirit:  When you know the word of God he will bring those verses to mind when you need them most.

Pollution

Pollution…it’s a word we hear almost everyday. It’s usually referring to the pollutants we put in the air, tin cans, water bottles the list can goes on and on.

How does it apply to your spiritual life?

How about when you’re watching TV show that advocates the very thing that you’ve been teaching your children not to do?

When you’re at work and a co-worker is telling an off colored joke.  Do you stick around to listen or do you walk away?

Your boss asks you to do something just a “little” dishonest…

All of this can affect us spiritually.  Little by little it invades us and before you know it we will be doing things we never would have thought of.

God’s word tells us…”Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.  And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9, NIV) 

I want to encourage you to meditate on God’s word and to find yourself a place to worship and keep yourself accountable.  We must fill our minds with things of God to fight worldly temptation.

Corps of Cadets

thI’m a football fanatic!  One of my favorite college teams; Texas A&M.

Texas A & M is a university that specializes in (A) Agriculture and (M) Military.  Though I love to watch the Aggies play football; I’ll go just to watch the “corps” march.

The Corp consist of the Military Cadets that are training to be soldiers.  I imagine that most of these Cadets would say it takes both mental and physical preparedness.

I believe that there is one more component to add to the mix.  Spiritual!

Are you prepared for the spiritual battles that this life will bring?  Scripture tell us:

Set Us Free

th (1)This 4th of July, I sit and reflect on the freedoms I enjoy as a American and as a believer of Christ.

I know that these freedoms came from great sacrifice.  I say, “Thank You” to those serving in our military and their families.

I praise The Lord for His sacrifice made long ago; on my behalf!  In Luke 4:14-19, Jesus returns to Nazareth, where He had been brought up and  He enters the synagogue and reads from scroll of the prophet Isaiah.

“The Spirit of The Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18-19, NIV)

Jesus was talking about setting us free from spiritual bonds.  We are all born with a sinful nature and therefore, it’s slave.  Once we receive our Lord as Savior; those bonds are broken.  But even after our salvation, we continue to struggle with things that entrap us.   th

Jesus is our deliver:

  • The word of God protects us from Satan’s schemes. 
  • Our Saviors spirit within us; protects us from temptation!
  • We cannot be controlled by things of this world…fear, guilt, jealously, bitterness, unforgiveness, which steals our joy!

We must learn to trust Christ in every situation.  Let’s celebrate our freedom in Christ!  Break free of the bondage of this world and surrender ourselves into His capable hands.
