Death and Taxes

March 13, 2017 — Leave a comment

You can be sure of two things… “Death and Taxes” I’ve heard this saying as long as I can remember.  I guess it came to mind because I need to have my taxes done.  Yuk!

I hate giving away my hard earned money…don’t you?  Then this scripture came to mind… “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” (Mark 12:17, NIV)

Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s…MONEY, and to God what is God’s…YOUR LIFE!

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heat will be also.  (Matthew 6:19-21, NIV)

I love to watch the new treasure hunter movies.  My favorite is “National Treasure” where the Gate’s family has hunted for the same treasure from generation to generation.

It is based on historical clues given by our founding fathers as to where the treasure is hidden.

Gate’s isn’t in it for the actual treasure but the thrill of the hunt.  His goal is to prove the treasure really exists and how important the historical value is.

We as believers have a treasure.  It’s been handed down from generation to generation.  We testify to the fact that it exits and has VERY important historical value.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasure in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”  (Matthew 6:19-21, NIV)

Love Heart, the bible holds the map to your “Ultimate Treasure”…Jesus Christ! ~Debra

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.  Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.  In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” (1 Timothy 6: 17-10, NIV)

Ruined

In Sunday School a couple of weeks ago; I had an eye opening experience.  I looked over to find one of the ladies sitting at my table sobbing.  Really sobbing.

I couldn’t imagine what was wrong.  I kept my eye on her, wondering if I might give her some comfort.

She got up from her seat to get some paper towels.  She had spilled her coffee.  I thought, Oh, no…she’s burned herself.  She continued to sob and clean up her mess.image

Then, it became crystal clear.  She begin to blot the coffee from the pages of her Bible.  Crying harder with each dab of the pages.

She carefully laid the paper towels between the pages of God’s word to keep them from sticking together.  It was as if it was her most treasured possession.

I approached her after class and asked if she was ok.  Her words broke my heart… “I’ve ruined it”.  I can’t afford another one and I need the large print to be able to read it.

Iimage assured her it wasn’t ruined, that it would looked used by its owner.  She smiled.

Wow, what if we ALL held God’s word in such high esteem.

“All scripture is God breathed, and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16

How do the pages of your Bible look?  Old, worn, marked and treasured or crisp as the first day you bought it. ~Debra

The Word

We live in a world where we are constantly propelled into the technological aspects of life.   Now, technology changes every 5 minutes so many of us think…what’s the use.  It leaves us confused and feeling a little stupid.

That’s the way many of us – even Christians – think about the Bible.  We may own one but as we read we don’t understand.  We become confused. We ask, how is reading this going to help me with the problems I’m facing?  Then, decide it’s not worth the headache!

It’s all in the attitude, friend.  If it’s important to you, you’ll keep at it.  Love Heart, God’s word is full of valuable information.

The Bible is a precious gift filled with resources.  It provides instruction, comfort, direction, peace, and much, much more.   God has a plan and has mapped it all out for us.

Commit today to reading your Bible and staying with it!!  Deb~
