Have you read the book or watched the move The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg?  It tells the story of a young boy who’s near the age where he doesn’t believe in Santa Claus.

On Christmas Eve he is awakened by a train that has pulled up in his front yard.  The conductor steps out and tells him to get aboard.  He gets on the train to find other pajama clad children questioning just like him. 

The train stops in a magical city which turns out to be the North Pole.  Santa appears and hands out gifts.  The little boy receives and silver bell from Santa’s reindeer harness. One catch…he has to believe in order to hear the bell.   Santa takes off on his rounds and the children load back up on the train for their trip home.  The boy reaches in his pocket for his bell realizing it has fallen through a hole in his coat pocket. 

He wakes Christmas morn with all the packages under the tree but his eye catches a small box.  Inside is the bell and a note from Santa telling him to fix the hole in his pocket.

The last line of the book reads…“At one time, most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed, it fell silent for all of them.”

It looks like to me that you have to believe for the spirit to work!

Scripture tell us “And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.” (I Thessalonians 2:13, NIV)

Hmm, you have to believe before the word of God can be at work in you.  Maybe you are a non believer and don’t understand the ways of God or maybe you are like Santa’s friends and believed at one time but His voice has been silent.

It is never too late!  It doesn’t matter what you’ve done.  Say you’re sorry and Believe!! ~Deb

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that come from the gospel of peace,.. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:11-17, NIV)

Our life is going to be full of challenges and obstacles.  In Ephesians 6, Paul tells us the real battle is in the Spiritual realm.  We can’t rely
on our own strength or we will be defeated. 

Wisdom Walks”  by Dan Britton & Jimmy Page, breaks it down like this.

    • Expect it… “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world. (John 16:33, NIV)
    • Be true…the Belt of Truth:  This holds all the other parts together and you’ll want to practice integrity and not be looking over your shoulder all the time waiting for a lie to catch up with you.
    • Be right…The Breastplate of Righteousness: True righteousness comes when your heart is made right through faith in Christ Jesus.  Asking forgiveness for sin everyday keep that protection in place.
    • Be ready…your feet fitted with readiness: Be ready to share the gospel, your faith in Christ!
    • Be sure…The Shield of Faith:  Faith protects you from the devil.  You’ll use anything and everything to trip you up.
    • Be smart…the Helmet of Salvation:  The helmet protects your mind.  “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”  (Romans 12:2, NIV).  When you meditate on His word and put it into action it easier to have a positive attitude.
    • Be skilled…The Sword of the Spirit:  When you know the word of God he will bring those verses to mind when you need them most.

The Bible is a manual that reveals God’s mind. (2 Timothy 3:16-17),  16) ” All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be throughly equipped for every good work.”

 It provides evidence throughout the ages that we can place our faith in Him.  It takes the guess work out of our life so we are free to make decisions.  It’s our guide to salvation and wise living.

 The Bible is God-breathed, therefore we are instructed not to add or take away from it. (Revelation 22:18-19)

Many people ask…If I could only speak to God!  Guess what?  You can!  His word says He is active in every part of our  lives.

(Proverbs 19:20-21,NIV) 19) “Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.  20) Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it’s  the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” (Hebrews 4:12-13, NIV)12)”For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joint and marrow; it judges the thought and attitudes of the heart.”

The Bible is a book for everyone.  Why not start reading it today and let God reveal His direction, wisdom, love, power, and character to you. Deb~

What’s Your Guide?

How do you start your day?  Are you rushing to get the kids ready for school and yourself out the door for work?

Love Heart, I want to encourage you to start your day with God.  If you are to stand against compromise you must start each day with God’s word and make it your guide.

“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful” (Joshua 1:8, NIV)

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’.”  (Matthew 4:4, NIV)

He will guide your way and the Holy Spirit will give you warning when temptation arises.  Obey immediately and don’t give Satan a foothold.

Pollution…it’s a word we hear almost everyday. It’s usually referring to the pollutants we put in the air, tin cans, water bottles the list goes on and on.

How does it apply to your spiritual life?

How about when you’re watching a TV show that advocates the very thing that you’ve been teaching your children not to do?   

When you’re at work and a co-worker is telling an off colored joke do you stick around to listen or do you walk away?

Your boss asks you to do something just a “little” dishonest…

All of this can affect us spiritually.  Little by little it invades us and before you know it we will be doing things we never would have thought of.

God’s word tells us…”Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.  And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9, NIV)

I want to encourage you to meditate on God’s word and to find yourself a place to worship and keep yourself accountable.  We must fill our minds with things of God to fight worldly temptation.
